Denim Dinosaur Quilt!

Hey hey! I'm back with pictures of my newly-finished denim quilt! Hurray!  It's bigger than my last one, and way too warm for August nights, but it could totally be used as a picnic blanket or something.

Tied again, because I am unwilling to try quilting denim and flannel on my machine for fear of breaking it.

The back is this cute dinosaur flannel I found for half off at joann's.

I was trying to get one of the dogs to come sit on it, but no-go.

All ready for a picnic!

Oh no, out of fabric!

Ran out of my snow fabric, so I have to order more. In the meanwhile, have a look at a quick proof-of-concept. I think it'll be great.

Another Project!

I continue to return from the wasteland to put down more pictures! I have decided to make a thing with some of the charm packs of a couple lines designed by this great lady, because while I like to look at them, I know this stuff is made to be used! So let's have some fun with it.

Here is my design! I have never tried to fiddle out a quilt from scratch before, it is kind of crazy. I super hope I have not accidentally stolen someone's quilt. It is a thing I will be paranoid over forever.

In progress blocks! The colors on all of these squares make me smile all the time, dang.

Framing them all in the Kona snow fabric. Solids abound aside from these squares.

No seriously, I adore these colors. And these blocks.

That'll do it for now! Hopefully I'll have more soon.

Denim Quilt Finish!

Woohoo! Finally, a finished quilt for 2013! Even if I'd told myself I wasn't going to start any new ones this year, a finish is a finish.

So when we last left me, I had just started sewing my big strips together and getting the flannel squares down. Here is the finished top, ready to sandwich!

Of course, something that big laying on the floor is bound to attract helpers. Bandit was concerned about the safety pins.

Asric really wanted to help, and tried to eat them in case it would make a difference to me while Bandit was off duty.

And finished! I forgot to take any pictures while I was tying it, oops. Tied with acrylic yarn that shifts between black and white, which I think is fine. I hope I tied everything tight enough that it doesn't come undone.

Not pictured: me immediately ripping the back of the quilt trying to get it off the fence. Erf.

The back is solid black flannel, and between it and the weight of the denim/flannel top it's fairly heavy and warm.  While it's not properly bed-sized, it's big and warm enough I've actually been able to sleep under it without my space heater turned on and not wake up cold! Brilliant.

This one isn't mine, but Mom was motivated to try and start on some little wall hangings with fabric she has ended up with from her grandma and aunt (my great grandma and great aunt). She wants to make an unspecified number of them to give to relatives, though who and how many and who gets what is dependent on how many she ends up with!

She's nearly finished with it now. I'm pretty proud of her for that.

And that's it for this quilting update! I wish I were back at work.

Denim Quilt Progress!

Not much to say this time, so I'll just hand off some pictures! Yay!

The bottom of the strips is hitting the floor, so I'm pretty content with the size. Tomorrow I will have the top finished, I hope!

January Picture Roundup!

It's the end of the month, so let's do a picture roundup! Things I did this month I may or may not have said anything about.

Too many pictures, so under the cut for safety.

Back Again.

Okay, so I'm trying to get back into the habit of posting here, so let's have another small post, shall we?

I posted last time about my peacock quilt. Since then, I've fiddled some, and have decided on something that I think makes me happier overall. Under the cut we'll have some progress bits!

Rise From Your Grave!

Hey guys, did you miss me? Wouldn't blame you if you didn't. I pretty much vanished, and took my comic with me. And the quilting. Well, the quilting I didn't stop dead on, at least. I've been making tiny strides forward on that front. I need to keep going, and I need to take stock of what I -have- so I know how best to continue.

But today's post isn't about that!

Today I'm presenting a new WIP! The start of a brand new quilt! I'm looking to maybe enter it into a couple f contests next year. I think it may need something yet.

What is this?

Because I cannot leave fabric alone around here.

Maybe the start of something new, we'll have to wait and see.

New quilt finished!

Man, I really need to get back into this again.

Anyway, my is finished!

Caithe, top

Here it is! Done with the Origins by Basic Grey fabric line. I had a jelly roll of it sitting around for a while, and was glad I found another so I could make this!

Caithe's Clseupkr

I ended up naming it Caithe, because I cannot for the life of me remember the proper name for the pattern and it ended up being called "chains of Caithe" while making it, so why not? I'ma huge Guild Wars nerd anyway.

Anyway! The quilting on it was just your normal meandering stitches, with sharp corners and straight-ish lines. If I had it again to do over I would not have done it so small, because it took forever on my little machine.

From the back.

Her backside is mostly just a solid yellow, aside from the little stripe of leftovers from the top. I ended up using leftovers for the binding too, so I ended up using pretty much every bit of fabric!

Caithe, finished~!
Then a bit of both the front and the back all at once.

I think I'm finally getting the hang of binding up quilts now, which is grand. Now to rest for a few days while I decide which project of the three(!) I have fabric for is next...

Progress! Of sorts.

First! Happy Bastille Day! It's practically over now, but... yeah.

I haven't been able to do much work on this here lately, but here's a progress report on the Chains o' Caithe quilt.

Quilting so far

I decided for this one to do an overall pattern to help push it back so you can focus on the fabric. And also to help make it sturdy, since I know it'll see plenty of use once it's done. Since there's so many squares and corners and the like, it's a squared-off meander!

Chain of Faith backing

The color of the yellow is way terrible here, but you can see the pattern a little better. The thread is a brown-orange-yellow color, which I think is nice with the brown-green-yellow fabric. You get a better idea of the yellow in the next shot.

New glasses!

Also man check out these sweet glasses I got in the mail! I've kind of become obsessed with this style of glassware as of late. I've been scouring the internet trying to find moremoremore at reasonable prices. This set here I scored for $10! Sweetness!
...But I still want more. Mom is amused.
